Beth Jones: The Fashionista With A Plan
The OC-based Stylist discusses life and the upcoming launch of her STYLIT! fashion planner
By
Shannon Finnerman September 2010
As an indication of the technology-driven society
we currently live in, I conduct my interview with
Orange County based Fashion Stylist and
entrepreneur Beth Jones, via Skype on a
Wednesday afternoon.
Although we are only separated by a 10 mile drive,
Beth who is in the midst of a hectic schedule filled
with pulling clothes for an upcoming Quicksilver
photo shoot, working with her private clients as
their personal stylist, and putting the finishing
touches on her new product called the
was lucky to get a few minutes to interview the
savvy blonde fashionista.
We begin our chat with a few minor technical
errors with our camera angles and microphone
volumes, but then flow right into a discussion
regarding her career, inspirations and specific
details about her innovative new
planner.
In terms of her own personal upbringing, Beth’s
roots are from a small island off of South Carolina,
where she spent her youth embracing her creative
spirit; constantly sketching and daydreaming of
designs. Her love of fashion and unique style has
always played an important role in her life and is
an innate aspect of her identity. In terms of
personal style icons, Beth has consistently looked
to editors of magazines along with a variety of
eclectic visual sources; “ I am very character
driven. I love Carrie Bradshaw, which in reality is
Patricia Field, and I love statement pieces. I like
everything I wear to be a bit over the top and glamourous.” This would
explain her impeccable sense of style and obsession with Vintage
clothing.
Although fashion styling is often deemed as a unique profession; Beth reveals, “My inspiration for my
career has always come from within. After studying abroad in London and moving to California, I
realized that my dream could become a reality. I had never thought that I could actually get paid to do
what I love.”

Beth reveals to me that she has a plethora of
legitimate motives for why she has chosen to stay in
Orange County; “ My priorities are my friends,
family, and husband. I love the people in my life . I
enjoy the balance of work and spending time with
loved ones.” Fortunately, her exclusive and distinct
business model targets a niche market do to the fact
that most fashion stylists are based in either LA or
New York.
The next big milestone in Beth’s career is the
upcoming October 7th, 2010 launch party for the
STYLIT!
be sold exclusively online via
, the handheld fashion planner, which will
http://wwww.bjonesstyle.com
The year- based planner is targeted towards the
fashion -forward individual who likes to be
organized and visualize their prospective outfits and
overall image. The first page is comprised of
personal style questions that will enable the user to
clearly determine what type of trends inspire them
and what style they hope to portray in their daily life.
They will then have the option to fill in inspiration
pages so that they can clearly envision what
specifically influences their lives.
The book is segmented into “Daily Plans” where
each day will have a sketch of the “STYLIT Girl”
silhouette to enable clients to physically draw out what types of
outfits they may want to wear on each specific day or help them plan ahead for a particular event. The
planner will also include unique segments such as; “Special Events”, “Must Haves”, “Jet Set” (outfits for
traveling) and “ Style Challenges”, which will encourage the user to take risks with their wardrobe.
What started out as a vision and an obscure idea has now become a reality that will ideally encourage
fashionistas everywhere to channel their creativity into an organized thought process.
As we wrap our interview and say our farewells, Beth coyly smiles as she envisions her
hands of real-world “Carrie Bradshaws” everywhere.

Hey everyone,

Today in class I was lucky enough to come across a really inspiring website from my friend nicole.

LOOKBOOK.nu

Im sure some have already heard of the site, but its new to me and is so amazing.  Check it out.  And i will have other websites and inspiring photos to check out on later posts.

Also, this past friday i was fortunate enough to meet with the owner of OBEY Clothing, and he had some very interesting and refreshing things to say.  He made my outlook on the industry more real and made me that much more excited for whats to come in my future.  I will be going over the conversation at our next meeting, and will blog about it within the week.

Dont forget:
if you are intersted in posting something on the blog, please feel free to contact any of the officers and we will give you the password.  This should be used as an open forum to share ideas of the industry, cool articles, exciting events, anything at all.  Utilize it as you please.

We also will be getting any officers contact list out by this Wednesdays meeting.

Have a lovely day.
